Glan Usk Primary School was created from both Durham Road Junior and Infant Schools and they amalgamated in September 2008, it extended its age range by including the very successful Rockfield Nursery this year and we now have over 660 pupils coming through our gates each day. It has taken many years for our new building to become a reality, it has been a long journey.
Our school, has been built on a successful past, we have travelled from a time when ‘knowledge was power’ to a present and future where children are ‘empowered’ to think for themselves, to become more independent, to lead their own learning, to making informed choices and above all to becoming more emotionally intelligent citizens. We have been in our new building for 4 years now and I am sure I speak for all staff when I say that we still have to pinch ourselves when we arrive at school each day.
The whole community, children, staff, parents and governors have been involved in shaping our school and creating a building that we are proud to say is ‘fit for purpose’ and helping us to deliver a 21st century education. We all share the same mission and vision, we believe that every child should be excited and challenged by a relevant curriculum and empowered to achieve their goals. With the right support and encouragement from our hard working and talented staff, our supportive parents and governors working together we will enable our young children to succeed.
I am incredibly proud to be the headteacher of this highly performing, innovative and forward thinking school. We are all truly thankful for our surroundings, to the people who planned, designed and built this superb accommodation.
We have waited a long time for the dream to materialise and now that it has, we will use our state of the art facilities to deliver a first class education to the children within this community.
